NAME OF THE DEPARTMENT: HISTORY

 

a) About the Department: UdaliCollege, Bamungaon was established in the year 1995 and the department of Historyhas been running since it’s inception .Till 2010 the syllabus was 1+1+1 three years Degree Course and then GAUHATI  UNIVERSITY  introduced a three years semester system degree course. In 2019 as instructed by the GU the department offers CHOICE BASED CREDIT SYSTEM (CBCS)Semester  under graduate programme.The department of History has been rendering it’s service to all the students of U.G degree. The department of History tries to provide it’s students a variety of interesting courses that address moral issues to attain social good and moral values.

VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT:

 

.The department of History was established with the view of imparting quality as well as spiritual education to the students of UdaliCollege and it's neighbouring area to help the students to develop intellectual abilities important for life as a whole. The department also tries to enhance the analytical, critical and interpretative capacities applicable to any subject matter and in any human context. Our motto is to enrich the knowledge of the students of Historywith special emphasis on spiritual, moral and ethical values and to create a noble, peaceful and calm atmosphere amongst the students so that they can enable themselves to be a good moral citizen in future.

 

MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT:

 

To mention about the mission of the department we must plan the following strategies:

• To give the students the opportunity of being a good and moral social man as well as changing the mind pattern to innovative thinking by the department activities by making heart by heart relation.
• To show them the art of living. To help them to build their character as necessary objectives for higher education.
• To make them adaptable in society . We activate them to cope up with the environmental problems.
• To make them fit to fight for justice  everywhere. To make them believe in non-violence everywhere as a policy.
• To develop a life, to be clear about the goal of life.
• To communicate knowledge from one generation to another through the students concerned.

 

SEMESTER WISE ACTION PLAN FOR TEACHING:

 

Admission Policy: The Admission process has been undertaken by the admission committee constituted as per guidelines of the college authority. Merit is considered on the result of the last exam appeared by the candidate.

 

Action Plan: The department takes a lot of measures to increase the enrolment and make students' results better.

 

Counseling:

 

1.Counseling is considered to be a key aspect by the department for smooth running of the teaching learning process. In the very beginning of the new session or induction program has been undertaken by the faculties of the department expecting that students of the History department can easily access the course.

 

2.Remedial classes have been initiated for the slow learners selecting on the basis of their performance in the internal assessment.

 

3.Flexibility of departmental class routine has been maintained as per requirement of the students of concerned dept.

 

4.Both financial and psychological support have been provided in case of poor students sent to those having mental stress.

 

Class Allotment:

 

Every year a departmental annual meeting is organized by the department of History. The faculty members’ presence in the meeting is mandatory. In this meeting the course has been distributed equally among the faculty members (paper wise). It is also mentioned that in every academic session the topic in every allotment to each faculty member has to be changed. The HOD presides over the annual departmental meeting.Various departmental and inter departmental seminars, group discussion, educational tour & project work have been practiced by the dept. for all round development of the students of the department.

 

Detectionof slow learners and steps taken for them:

 

1.Admission of students is done in the College based on the academic performance of other previous examinations. Yet we are facing a lack of equality input.

 

2.Slow learners are identified on the basis of classroom interaction, assignments and performance in the sessional exam specially.

 

Steps Taken: To improve the quality of the slow learners generally we arranged some remedial measures, such as-

 

i).Remedial special classes are arranged for the slow learners.

ii).Giving some homework to prepare notes for her/his syllabus.

iii).Attempting to make them free and frank regarding their quarries and problems.

iv)They are providing study materials.

 

Student’s feedback and action taken report:

 

 Feedback is collected from our passed out students both by offline and online methods. Format for feedback are compiled with the issue of teachers punctuality, communication skill, friendly behavior, using TLM in class etc. and feedback for the department and institution at a large from the feedback the department of History departmenthas been trying to improve demanded by the students feedback for making it more friendly and helpful to the students of the college.

 

Initiative Practices  taken by the department:

 

 1. Students are taken on educational trips to increase their attention to study.

 2. Students are taken to visit various Historical places to encourage research work.

 3. Students are taught social responsibility and encouraged to involve themselves in all kinds of activities in the socity.

 

Group Discussion: Group discussion of the History department includes in every paper. Group discussion makes students more clear about the topic taught by the teacher. After that, if they have confusion about the topic they can ask their teachers any questions. So, it is beneficial for them. After their discussion, they get marks or grades when teachers ask something about the topic.

Our Department has a small library having 75 nos. of Books. It contains text books and reference books. Separate books issue register has been maintained by the department and one of the faculty members is accorded to be assigned for keeping the records. Students can borrow books every working day. We collect books from outgoing students and from faculty members of our department as donations to the department library.

• If 75% attendance of each student is made mandatory, we can impart the maximum benefit of our teaching students.

2. To make weaker students equally competent than brilliant students

3. To acquire higher grade in NAAC Accreditation for the college

 

Suggestions :

 

History department of the college needs some basic infrastructural facilities such as a big separate digital departmental room, big size natural and political maps of North East India, India and the world, available furniture, bookshelves, one steel Almirah, globe, photo frames etc.

 

        Therefore the department requests the management and the Principal to provide all the necessary things in a most effective way and seeks cooperation and support from all, to bring success to the above proposed action plan.
