Establishment: 16-08-1995

 

About the Department:

The economics department of the college is one of the oldest departments created since the first inception of the college. However it took the shape of a department in the year 2005. While general courses started from the beginning of the college, Major courses started in the year 2010 and since then it has been able to produce many successful students in every year. Till 2010 the syllabus was 1+1+1 three years degree course and then GAUHATI UNIVERSITY introduce three years semester system degree course. In 2019 as instructed by the GU the department offers CHOICE BASE CREDIT SYSTEM (CBCS). Now the department offers both Honours and Generic courses less than three years degree courses for B.A in Economics.

Programme Outcome:

After completion of B.A programme in Economics, the students will be well acquainted with the major concept and principles of economics. They will be encouraged to analyze the basic economic ideas in practice and will also be able to learn the present and past economic condition of the country. Students will learn how economic activities like production, distribution etc. are organized by the markets. They will also acquire knowledge about national income, employment, inflation, deflation, monetary and fiscal policy, banking system etc. Students will be equipped quantitative analytical skills with the help of which they will be able to collect data, tabulate, present and analyze data to support economic decision making.

ACTION PLAN FOR TEACHING IN THE DEPARTMENT ECONOMICS

 

Admission Policy: The Admission process has been undertaken by the admission committee constituted as per guidelines of the college authority. Merit is considered on the result of the last exam appeared by the candidate and specially marks obtained in Economics for taking admission Major in Economics.

 

Counseling and qualifying test for Major Students: The Dept. of economics initiates a qualifying test (oral) for taking a major in Economics among those willing students having 45% in the concerned subject in the last final exam.

Action Plan: The department takes a lot of measures to increase the enrolment and make students' results better.

 

Counseling:

 

1. In the very beginning of the new session or induction program has been undertaken by the faculties of the department expecting that students of the Economic department can easily access the course.

2. Remedial classes have been initiated for the slow learners of the department.

3. Flexibility of departmental class routine has been maintained as per requirement of the students of concerned dept.

  4. Career counseling also arranges for the students to give knowledge about various jobs oriented courses and also inform them about job opportunities.

5) Counseling also arranges for dropout students .

 

Class allotment:

 

In the starting of a new session a departmental meeting is organized by the HoD of department of Economics and all faculty members cooperate with him.In this meeting the course has been distributed equally among the faculty members (paper wise).Various departmental and interdepartmental seminars, group discussion, educational tour & project work have been practiced by the department for all round development of the students.

 

Detection of slow learners and steps taken for them:

 

1.Admission of students is done in the College based on the academic performance of other previous examinations. Yet we are facing a lack of equality input.

2.Slow learners are identified on the basis of classroom intersections, assignments and performance in the sessional exam specially.

 

Steps Taken: To improve the quality of the slow learners generally we arranged some remedial measures, such as-

 

i).Remedial special classes are arranged for the slow learners.

ii).Giving some homework to prepare notes for her/his syllabus.

iii).Attempting to make them free and frank regarding their quarries and problems.

iv).They are providing study materials.

 

Student’s feedback and action taken report:

 

Feedback is collected from our passed out students both by offline  methods. Format for feedback are compiled with the issues of teachers' punctuality, friendly behavior, interaction, using TLM in class etc. and feedback for the department and institution at large.

1. Teachers Exchange Program:

 

Teachers Exchange Program serves as a cultural learning experience for the teachers and as a means for expanding and enriching an educator’s pedagogic expertise. Keeping in mind the department of Economics, Udali College has decided to introduce this program with the different colleges. Apart from this inter departmental teachers exchange a program has also been conducted by the department among the faculty members of the College.

Our Department has a small library having 40 nos. of Books. It Contains text books and reference books. Students can borrow books every working day. We called books from outgoing students and from faculty members of our department as donations to the department library.

• If 75% attendance of each student is made mandatory, we can impart the maximum benefit of our teaching students.

2. To make weaker students equally competent than brilliant students .

3. To increase the number of students in  the department .

Future plans:

4) Organize various faculty development program.

5) Arrange a separate smart class room .

Best Practices of Economics department:

    The department of Economics always gives importance to skilled  education. Organized Special programs for empowerment girls students of the college. As a part of this since 2020 we have organized pickle making training,handloom training Programs , Hand embroidery training for girls students of the college. The department also arranged educational tours to different industries of our locality like Nursery Visit, ECOTECH AGRO MILLS visit, Dalmia Cement Industry visit etc. The department arranged counseling and coaching classes for competitive exams to the students of the Economics department
